Wedding Photography Stratford Warwickshire

Stratford-upon-Avon, known locally as just Stratford is a market town in Warwickshire. It lies on the River Avon about 22 miles south east of Birmingham. With Anglo Saxon origins and developed as a market town during medieval ages, the original town charter was granted back in 1196, making Stratford over 800 years old. The name is a combination of the old English “Street” and “ford” – indicating a site at which a road forded a river.

The town is a popular tourist destination owing to its status as the birthplace of the playright and poet William Shakespeare, receiving about 4.9million visitors a year from all over the world. The Royal Shakespeare Company resides in Stratford’s Royal Shakespeare Theatre, one of Britain’s most important cultural venue. Other tourist attractions in the town include 5 houses relating to Shakespeare’s life, all now owned and cared for by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.

At the top end of Stratford is Holy Trinity Church where Shakespeare was baptised and buried – perhaps the most famous church in the area.

Other churches include St Gregory’s Catholic Church, St Andrews Church Shottery and Stratford upon Avon Methodist Church
