Wedding Photographer Birmingham – a day in the life……..
I’m sure when people book a wedding photographer, what they think they are getting is somebody who is going to magically appear for a few hours with a camera – take a load of photos – then send them to them the next day all done.
The reality is somewhat different.
For each and every wedding – planning and preparation is the key. From months before the big day, we will have already visited the venue and done a spec on each of the rooms for size, access, shooting positions and lighting calculations. Your wedding co-ordinator will have talked us through your day and made sure there is enough time allocated for all the image you want to achieve.
The night before the wedding, all the equipment is cleaned and tested and the car loaded ready for an early start, a job that in itself can take anything up to 2/3 hours
On the day itself we will shoot somewhere in the region of 1000 images – all in high resolution, unprocessed RAW files. Most of these images you wont even be aware we have taken
When we leave at probably 10:00 time and head back – this is when the real work begins.
That evening, before we do anything all the camera cards are backed up to two different computers – a job that can take up to 2 hours – to ensure that all your valuable memories from your day are not lost
The next morning – the sifting process begins. 1000+ images will be sorted and categorised before we reduced this number down to between 150/200 that we believe give the best representation of your day and also show the best flow. We have to maintain the balance between images that tell the story as well as images that capture the moments. This whole process can usually take all day.
Day 2 post wedding – the editing begins on your 150/200 images to get them print quality ready. Although we are generally producing images for disk / web viewing initially – all images are produced to a standard that should you want a large format print / canvas of any image – they are all good enough for that purpose.
Usually then by the end of Day two – the full set are ready. Generally i will then leave the set 24 hours for my assistant to review and pass any comments and for me to do a second review on before the images are made available for you the Bride and Groom to see.
So when people say to me sometimes………being a Wedding Photographer is good money for a few hours work one day a week……….is it really ????
I do it because I love it……………….the fact that I can make a business out of it is a bonus
